Beautiful Shoal Creek meanders through Orr Park providing opportunities for fishing, wading, canoeing, kayaking, and just "watching the creek roll by." A paved walking trail follows the creek for much of its journey through the park.

As is true of many wooded areas, Orr Park has a number of very old cedar trees which are no longer living. Rather than remove these cedar trees, local artist, Tim Tingle, has provided the city with a magnificent gift by transforming many of these ancient tree "stumps" into intricate wood carvings. The walking trail is adorned with an ever increasing number of carvings like this dragon. Park visitors marvel at this unique art form and enjoy the creativity and gift of Tim Tingle.

Orr Park also has a recreation center which houses several community programs including the Shelby County Senior Citizens Program. This program is open to all residents fifty-five years old and better. Some of the other programs which call the recreation center home are the Meals on Wheels program, Summer Children's Recreation program, and A Dozen Domino Players group.

For information about Montevallo park programs, contact Kirk Hamby, Park and Recreation Director at 665-9205.
