The MFD has sponsored an Explorer Post Program since 1978 which provides youths 15 years of age and older with an opportunity to join the Montevallo Secondary Fire Department. Sixteen Montevallo Secondary members have "graduated" to full-time careers as firefighters in paid and volunteer departments throughout the area. 18 former Explorers now serve the MFD. MFD fleet includes a 1938 Pumper Truck, a 1975 55’ Snorkel Truck, a 1989 Rescue Truck, a 1990 Pumper Truck, a 1999 Pumper Truck, a 1999 Rescue Truck, and a 2005 103’ Aerial Platform Truck. The MFD operates out of 2 Fire Stations located in the City of The Chief of the MFD is Bill Reid who has more than 30 years of service with the department. Bill has four sons who are members of the MFD and who are "graduates" of the MFD Secondary squad. | |||
